More than more than 170 billion pounds of wildlife is removed a year, from the seas

National Geographic Magazine looks to the ocean and watches as three times the weight of every man, woman, and child in the United States is removed from the waters. Will we have a worldwide fisheries collapse?

Too many hooks in the water. That’s the problem with today’s fisheries. Working from small pole-and-line boats to giant industrial trawlers, fishermen remove more than 170 billion pounds of wildlife a year from the seas.
