One of the North East Beaches

A fantastic day on one of the NE Beaches. We went past the nearest beach to the old pier and past the rocks there is this isolated little beach, with thousands of shells.

There are some very, very old shells here. There are also a majority of cockles of various sizes, Razorpod shells and the little sea snails.

COCKLE SHELLS OF DIFFERENT SIZES
LIMPET SHELLS
Our collection of limpet shells. There is one special one near the bottom of the display that is our favourite. It is sort of like a sun with the rays going outwards. Its really unusual.
.
This limpet has a little attachment to his helmet. It will make a lovely character addtion to a sketch of one of my magical sea creatures ;) Like a sea elf ;)

MY LITTLE SISTER'S COLLECTION OF RAZOR POD SHELLS
*(these are very old razor pods shells as this beach is very isolated. There are no new razor pod shells here. We were wondering why all the shells here are so old and no new ones. Were they over harvested in the past and the growing population annihilated :( It seems possible. Especially some of the shells that are pretty large and are not found anywhere else on any of these beaches. I have so photos of them that I will post later. These razor pods are very bleached by the sun. I have some others from a beach that still produces live razorpods and they are very dark.

(I made up this joke that mermaids shave under their arms with razorpod shells :)

PINK SHELL
We found one very old, unusual one which is pink. It might be an unusual coloured scallop shell but its worn around the edges so difficult to tell. The pattern is unusual and the colour.

SEA SQUIRT
This is another sea squirt I found today. It was inthe same place as the last sea squirts I found but a bit different. It is more greenish and very soft outer. The others were more white/translucent/transparent and tough outer. They also had something inside and this one is empty inside but not torn open.
